Saturday Night Viewing Opportunity

Aurora Borealis Set to Illuminate New England Skies

Saturday Night Viewing Opportunity

After missing the light show last night, New England is expected to have an opportunity to view the aurora borealis again on Saturday night. Clouds are forecasted to coat the sky by dawn, but the National Weather Service predicts a clear view of the celestial display before then.

Forecast Intensity and Location

The aurora borealis, also known as the northern lights, is a natural light display in the sky. A map created by the University of Alaska Fairbanks' Geophysical Institute shows a viewline that represents the predicted intensity and location of the aurora over North America tonight and tomorrow night.

According to the forecast, the farther north viewers are, the better the viewing opportunity will be. The map shows expected cloud cover after midnight on Saturday night, with clear skies in most of New England.

30 to 90 Minute Forecast

The map is based on the OVATION model, which provides a 30 to 90 minute forecast of the location and intensity of the aurora. This product helps viewers plan their aurora viewing experience.

Recent Aurora Sightings

On Friday night, stunning aurora displays were seen in the Atlanta area around 10:30 p.m. Emily Smith of CNN reported on the sighting, which was caused by a severe geomagnetic storm.

Aurora enthusiasts are encouraged to stay updated on the forecast and follow the National Weather Service for the latest information on viewing conditions.
