Early Life and Career

William "Bill" Maher Jr. was born on January 20, 1956, in New York City and grew up in River Vale, New Jersey. Maher began his career as a stand-up comedian in the 1970s and gained recognition for his sharp wit and political humor.

Television Career

Politically Incorrect

In 1993, Maher launched the late-night talk show Politically Incorrect on Comedy Central. The show featured Maher interviewing guests on current political and social issues. Politically Incorrect was a success, running for 10 seasons until it was canceled in 2002 due to Maher's controversial comments about the September 11 attacks.

Real Time with Bill Maher

After the cancellation of Politically Incorrect, Maher returned to television in 2003 with the HBO talk show Real Time with Bill Maher. The show follows a similar format to Politically Incorrect, with Maher interviewing guests and providing his own commentary on political and social issues. Real Time with Bill Maher has consistently been one of the most-watched late-night talk shows on cable television.

Other Projects

Maher has also been involved in numerous other projects outside of television. He has released several stand-up comedy albums, written several books, and produced several documentaries.
